The deep valleys moraines, rock faces, cliffs, vast ice fields and almost vertical ice walls present sheer travail to overcome the route. The expedition takes multiple days of treading over tricky plateaus steep slopes dropping dangerously on some places. Mt. Menthosais full of technicalities comprising all aspects of climbing experiences. Being 2nd highest in the region and towering 6440m gives one a perfect challenge to acclaim magnificent summit. Mt. Menthosawas first climbed by the British team led by Capt. S Bembrose in 1970. Since then numerous teams tried to summit the peak and many of them succeeded in the course.
Menthosa peak offers you an exceptional opportunity for adventure-seeking climbers to get the ultimate climbing adventure all being amid the world’s 2nd highest peak.
The route for this tremendous peak starts driving from Manali over Rohtang Pass to the desolate Lahaul valley. We will reach Udaipur and take a detour along the MiyarNallah into the magical valley. At Urgos our drive ends and the actual climb starts following steep route along the UrgosNallah. It is a beautiful trekking through grassy pastures gorges and over the numerous plateaus. Base camp is located at 4400m near a clear running stream with beautiful meadows of rich pastures decked with varied flower species and the commanding view of Mt. Menthosa in the background. The base camp is a marvelous site to leisure and acclimatize. After base camp route leads along the northern bank of the glacier and ascends over steep slopes to Urgos pass (5100m). The Urgos pass is divided by a 5250m hump and camp I could be set on this hump on southwest side the Mt. Menthosa. Then climb towards camp II gradually steepens the slant culminating an abrupt wide snowy bulge on the north eastern flank. The slant eases but some large crevasses contend with a transition and one of the crevasse lay aside the camp II at 5650m. After leaving camp II we will reach a wide glaciated plateau at the foot of summit cone and climb a steep short stretch around 60 degrees. This glaciated plateau rises on a gentle slope to the east ridge of Mt. Menthosa and to the summit cone. At around 6000m. is a fairy level spot where camp III can be pitched. Camp III offers amazing vistas of Mt. Menthosa’s cone and number of far flung peaks stretching distantly into the horizon.
At camp III further route is examined precisely taking northern or eastern approach depending on the complying situations. We will take the eastern ridge to approach summit which joins the base of a hump at 6200m. As we reach the summit steepish ice pitches relent briefly to a gentler gradient. The final stretch is over a glaciated terrain requiring a great level of endurance. Soon the technicalities over and the summit is acclaimed at 6440m. At the pinnacle grand vistas of Phawarang, Nun Kun and numerous remote peaks soar fiercely into the skies. At top many unknown peaks and mountains stretch far into the horizon. Spend some time at the top and trace back the route carefully. Climb down to the camp III, wind up all the stuff and descend to the lower altitude. Subsequently pack up all the higher campsites and reach the base to relax amidst gentler atmosphere. Then collect all the waste leave the base and take back memories of triumph over the 2nd highest peak of Lahaul.

Preparation for the Peak Climb:
As you know every mountainous excursion demands a precise planning, a planning with adequate pliability of observing and tackling situations, held all as by overcoming mind body and soul throughout the incredible Himalayan journey. Expeditions are tricky sometimes way far from coinciding, so it is necessary that only people with prior trekking experiences above 4500mtrs completed for 4-5 times or should have done Basic Mountaineering course are invited to join in the incredible mountainous tour.
So here are some aspects regarding Expedition preparation:
Physically: An Expedition demands a lot of physical endurance, to prepare for each Expedition you should work out a month before joining a program. Build up the adequate strength in your legs by running and exercising every day to boost up your endurance. Stop smoking and boost your lungs doing breathing exercises at routine basis two times a day, which will help acclimatize the conditions while being resilient on the trek. Take active part in outdoor games, Yoga and any other cardiac exercises. There are times when you have to climb even for 20hrs in single attempt, that’s how you should be prepared pushing yourself beyond limits and it only can be achieved by defined training before and enroute.
Mentally: Mental preparation is key, equally as important as physical training requisite for an Expedition. Before joining any Expedition get pleasure from your daily routines, exercise, eat well, take rest properly and relax. Do not stress your mind by unnecessary predictions preplanned strategies about the Expedition. Be with your best friends to get motivated and relax your mind. Because pre expedition assumptions are not worth to worry, once you join the March and meet with rest of the pack will bring encouragement and excitement. The mental preparedness will build through the entire trip conditions and the physical drawbacks will affect the mind somehow. So pay close attention to various parts of the body and consciously let them loosen up as you climb each campsite. When you climb try to relax your body focus on the training you have done and focus on the trail or some precipitous route to negotiate carefully. Experiment with different ways of walking as a way of finding enjoyment beyond the goal of reaching a destination. The main key to stay mentally fit is to enjoy the route and not to pressurize the mind.
Technically: Gear up yourself with perfect size trekking/climbing shoes and walk with it. Use 60ltr. Backpack in a daily routine with as much weight as you can put inside it, so you will become used to carrying loads for long distances. Buy a Trekking Pole, Water Bottle, Warm socks, Thermals, Fleece, Feather Jackets, Cap, Trousers, Poncho, Flip Flops, electronics such as power bank, camera (DSLR or digital camera) along with you. Get a sling to practice the major knots used later on the climb.
Climbing a peak is always as staggering as its sheer challenges, opting combination of accurate preparedness will fruit you with glorifying summit attain. So prepare yourselves honestly and join in the Himalayan Adventure Trips Expedition to Mighty mount Menthosa.
