“When was the last time you breathed pure air, air so pure that you could feel it through your lungs?
Have you ever held snow in your bare hands, snow so cold it will put your chilled drink to shame?
Did you ever walk across mighty glaciers, through a land so pristine white that you have to close your eyes to take in the brightness?
If you wish to have an experience of a lifetime, to see the misty mountains, feel the lush green earth, drink the sparkling water of River Beas and be miles away from the ruckus of the city and its technology, and then you have to climb with us to Mt. Deo Tibba Peak expedition.
Deo Tibba is a beautiful 6001 m. high peak situated in the Pir Panjal range of mountains in the Manali valley of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at Duhangan Nalla and Malana glacier consisting of an extensive ice cap, giving it a dome like shape. The actual climb being a snow hump accessible once the edge of the ice plateau is accomplished. It also has the beauty of being just over the 6000 m. high mark altitude which will be a great achievement for any passionate climber. Deo Tibba is a popular peak here and the trek trails through the majestic foothills of the spectacular Himalayas. It is said that all the Gods of Hindu Mythology used to sit on this dome having caucuses, which one could speculate at pinnacle of the Peak that if it is true or just a random Mythological story. Dome shaped peak being a 2nd highest in the Pir Panjal Range offers a 360*view of snow capped peaks seen vaguely all around the summit.
It will be fun moving across the rocky pathways headed for Chikkha accompanied with a meandering stream keeping fresh and lively the atmosphere. Chikkha has beautiful green pastures below the azure skies following our way to our next stop towards Seri where it will be blooming with wild flowers and it will be a pleasure to walk through. The trail ascends through Birch, Pine, Fir and Cedar trees. The Tenta Waterfall, Chandertal and Jagatsukh are places of immaculate beauty and one has to be there to breathe in the overwhelming experience. Our base for the upcoming days will be at Chota Chandratal above Tenta. From the base we will ferry the load to further camps and acclimatize. We will climb through the scree of precipitous Duhangan Col. followed on the massive ice field then again a sheer incline on ice walls. The climbing will test all your strength and endurance until we attain the top. At our final stop on the Deo Tibba summit, one will encounter all of its sublime glory held expansively. Attaining the top will offer spectacular vistas of distant mountain ranges and mighty peaks, giving one a feel of incredible achievement. Finally recede back prudently to summit camp then the base and so on till the road head. Once again we are back into the abundant natural vales of Kullu Manali after days of living in isolation. After hours of trek and drive it is time to go back to our belongingness and to say good bye to each other.
This 12 nights and 13 days itinerary encompasses a comprehensive trek to Mount Deo Tibba. This long itinerary offers you enough time for acclimatization. This amazing tour is the home of a serene and splendid panorama that simply spellbinds the travelers to explore the ancient culture of Himachal.
Day 1: Arrival at Manali (2050m.)
Reach Manali, here you will be greeted by our representatives and will be taken to further accommodations/programs. Paper work and other preparation will be completed on this day. After all the work one can visit the Manali.
Day 2: Manali to Duhangan (via taxi) - Chhika (3000m.)(2 hours trek)
Drive from Manali to Duhangan via serpentine roads leading into the interiors of Hampta. Once reached at the road end pack up your sacks and buckle up for the adventure waiting ahead. Our trek will commence initially with moderate climbs along the stream leading through dense forests. We will trek steadily without any rush, enjoying the trail amidst pure wild nature. Soon the forests will start thinning and the paddock of Chhika starts to appear. Chhika is a holy place associated to the Nag Devta’s abode. Here one can see a boulder engraved with naturally carved figure of Nag Devta (Snake Deity) as realistic made by the time. This natural figure of the Snake Deity lies near to the temple premises. The figure looks as real as it is climbing towards the mountains. There are huts for devotees to stay a night. We will fix our camps and explore the area after having tea and snacks. Night halt will be in tents.
Day 3: Chhika to Seri (3600m.)(6 hour trek)
Today the day will start with a hot cup of tea followed by the sumptuous breakfast. At first the trail will go moderately through the thick forests along the stream. The low land vegetation will change to highland foliage with birch trees en route. This change is followed by alpine shrubs and plant life originated at highland meadows. En route we will pass the Pandu Ropa, the legendary place of paddy field grown by the Pandavas. It is a beautiful location to spend some time. Moving ahead we walk across the boulders and highland shrubs as passing the Duddu Pathar. The shrubs and stones will accompany us till the open and broad meadows of Seri are visible. The trail comes with a bit sheer climbs but overall distance is covered leisurely. Once reached at Seri one can see the extensiveness of the incredible campsite. The vast flatlands ornamented with colorful foliage and a stream flowing zigzag near to the camp makes it the moment of liveliness. The place is surrounded by the rocky mountain cliffs at both sides with a spectacular waterfall in front crashing down from the Tenta cliffs. In the evening explore the vast flatland and encounter the horses running freely all around the field. At night don’t forget to gaze at the night sky, stars, milkyway and the constellations perceptibly clear. The campsite at Seri has often freezing winds, which makes night very cold, so sleep tight.
Day 4: Seri to Tenta Base camp (3900m.)(5/6 hours.)
In the morning watch the sunrise shining on the one side of mountains and the other with darker side creating beautiful contrast to capture the moment. Have tea, breakfast and then start trekking on the enormous flatlands of Seri. As this flatland reaches to its end the steep climb awaits to be negotiated. The shrubs and plants are now scarce as the miniature foliage has won this battle of surviving at the highlands. So there are only grasslands and some wild flora, Himalayan Herbs to be seen. The circuitous trail takes an hour to complete to get over the cliff, further moderate treading yet it brings the gushing stream to cross. The stream water is freezing with gushing torrent to overcome. We will cross it and walk on the other extensive flatland. The gradual climb will not change and will be a leisure walk till the campsite at Tenta. Tenta is a shepherd’s encampment mostly surrounded by their livestock. Tenta is also a beautiful place from where one can see the valley and the prior route all the way back. From Tenta one can see the mighty Mt. Deo Tibba positioning eminently high above us. Spend a night in camps after having healthy dinner.
Day 5: Rest day and preparations
Today we will rest full day and acclimatize to the atmosphere. One can get familiar with the techniques, equipments requisite for upcoming climbing. Explore around don’t stay inside the tent and try to hike in the daytime.
Day 6: Load ferry to Advance base camp (4500m.)
Wake up early as we will ferry some of our load to the Advance base camp. It will be an acclimatization walk with heavy backpacks consisting of our climbing gears, Ration etc. Ferrying load to the next campsite will help climbers to get familiar with the hardships waiting. We will dump our stuff at Advance Base camp and return back to the Base camp. Halt a night and relax for the upcoming day.
Day 7: Occupy Duhangan Col. (camp I, 5200m.)
The climb above ABC through Duhangan col. is the most strenuous part of the climb. The Duhangan col. is mixed of ice and scree which is an obstacle for even those with prior climbing experience above 6000m. The col comes with sheer climb until one reaches at the top. The loose stones rocks make it so difficult to climb as the gradient keeps angling vertically. For this stretch of testing the limits one needs to be determined preparedly. The climbers have to be alert each step they make, because stepping up would trigger some loose rock fall and injure someone climbing behind. So being alert and active is requisite on this part of climb. It takes about 6-7 hours of climb to complete the Duahangan col. Once climbed the hard section one will see extensive ice field spreading far below the peak. The enormity of the ice field is recognized as we tread over it. We will camp on this massive ice field for the night.
Day 8: Duhangan Col(camp 1) - Occupy Summit camp(5500m./18045ft.)
An early start is necessary to establish summit camp. There are two possible routes to reach summit camp commonly used by the recent climbers. One route follows the southeast piton ridge to a stiff snow ramp leading to another ridge connecting the upper neve slopes. The other route is frequently used by climbers, followed by a mixed snow and ice gully to the southeast of piton ridge. We can opt any route by discussing the climbers or the situation stipulates.
Day 09: Summit day.
The most awaited day of the whole climbing has come today. The summit attempt will start as early as we can prepare for the precipitous climb. The route is mixed of ice and snow, climbed gradually till the top. It is an arduous attempt and all your efforts needed to be adequate to conquer the peak. All your training and strength would mean a lot at such height that everyone dreams to achieve. Our summit should be attained at the time so that we can have some moments of glory spend at the top by capturing photographs and hoisting Indian flag. One would see massive peaks and mountain ranges spreading distantly on horizon. Standing at the top above clouds would give a feeling triumphing over the fierce peak, a never ending excitement. Re trace back the steps carefully towards summit camp. At arrival have a hot cup of tea and gossip over glorifying moments of joy. After dinner take rest and sleep sound as we have to return back lower.
Day 10: Reserve day for Summit and back to camp 1.
The day is reserved for any weather changes or delaying of climb due to ailments or any other reasons.
Day 11: Camp 1 to Base camp
Descend back carefully through the dangerous Duhangan col. reach at the base camp. One will be cherished by the adorned landscape missed for some days. Spend the evening with hot cup of soup at your own leisure while gazing the peak. Halt a night in the tents.
Day 12: Base camp to Chhika
Today we will meet into the wild flora and fauna, this landscape full with greenery will energize one with excitement once again. We trace back the route and approach at Chhika by the afternoon.
Day 13: Chhika to Manali.
The final day has arrived when one will have the chance to get back to the civilization. We will trek for 2 hours from Chhika to Duhangan Project site, where our vehicle would be waiting for us. We will hop in and drive back to Manali. At Manali one is free to leave to their preferred destinations.

Preparation for the Climb
As you know every mountainous excursion demands a precise planning, a planning with adequate pliability of observing and tackling situations, held all as by overcoming mind body and soul throughout the incredible Himalayan journey. Expeditions are tricky sometimes way far from coinciding, so it is necessary that only people with prior trekking experiences above 4500mtrs completed for 4-5 times or should have done Basic Mountaineering course are invited to join in the incredible mountainous tour.
So here are some aspects regarding Expedition preparation:
Physically – An Expedition demands a lot of physical endurance, to prepare for each Expedition you should work out a month before joining a program. Build up the adequate strength in your legs by running and exercising every day to boost up your endurance. Stop smoking and boost your lungs doing breathing exercises at routine basis two times a day, which will help acclimatize the conditions while being resilient on the trek. Take active part in outdoor games, Yoga and any other cardiac exercises. There are times when you have to climb even for 20hrs in single attempt, that’s how you should be prepared pushing yourself beyond limits and it only can be achieved by defined training before and enroute.
Mentally – Mental preparation is key, equally as important as physical training requisite for an Expedition. Before joining any Expedition get pleasure from your daily routines, exercise, eat well, take rest properly and relax. Do not stress your mind by unnecessary predictions preplanned strategies about the Expedition. Be with your best friends to get motivated and relax your mind. Because pre expedition assumptions are not worth to worry, once you join the March and meet with rest of the pack will bring encouragement and excitement. The mental preparedness will build through the entire trip conditions and the physical drawbacks will affect the mind somehow. So pay close attention to various parts of the body and consciously let them loosen up as you climb each campsite. When you climb try to relax your body focus on the training you have done and focus on the trail or some precipitous route to negotiate carefully. Experiment with different ways of walking as a way of finding enjoyment beyond the goal of reaching a destination. The main key to stay mentally fit is to enjoy the route and not to pressurize the mind.
Technically- Gear up yourself with perfect size trekking/climbing shoes and walk with it. Use 60ltr. Backpack in a daily routine with as much weight as you can put inside it, so you will become used to carrying loads for long distances. Buy a Trekking Pole, Water Bottle, Warm socks, Thermals, Fleece, Feather Jackets, Cap, Trousers, Poncho, Flip Flops, electronics such as power bank, camera (DSLR or digital camera) along with you. Get a sling to practice the major knots used later on the climb.
Climbing a peak is always as staggering as its sheer challenges, opting combination of accurate preparedness will fruit you with glorifying summit attain. So prepare yourselves honestly and join in the Himalayan Adventure Trips Expedition to Mighty mount Deo Tibba.
