SAR, locally means ‘Lake’, a glacial lake established by the several torrents surfaced trail offers on snow by melting course, these tiny water currents gather on the lap of the mountain base creating a spectacular highland lake. Crafted with a smile by Mother Nature SAR is located in the most frequent valley of Northern India, lap serenely in the backdrops of the lucid valley of Parvati. The sar pass trek is one of the most recurrent and treasured treks of the correlated valley. As of the SAR Pass trek, it is done in both summer and winter seasons, when everything gets enclosed with the thick white sheet in winter and ornamented with foliage in the summers.Sar pass trek is ideal trek for beginners. The trek starts from the well known place called Kasol, packed with travelers, trekkers, mountaineers and a bunch of lousy day-trippers. The trek initially commences with the hustle and bustle of the little town which turns into a peaceful upland setting. The nearest airport is bhuntar to reach Kasol by flight. The trek attains the convincing height of 4200m. taking one through dense forests to the ancient village of Grahan to the alpine pastures and ultimately to the top of the pass surrounded with immense snow. It takes 5days to complete the trek with some steep inclines to moderate terrains then the sheer downhill. The landscape during the trek keeps changing constantly offering the best views of the valley with huge snow capped mountain ranges and peaks. It could be a pleasant experience for neophytes searching for an inclusive adventure time in the Himalayas. The sunsets of Ming Thach, Gushing winds of thach Nagaru and sar top, Snow slides after crossing over the pass, serene beauty of Bishkeri Thach and so on the sites mesmerizing one with true emotions. Finally the trek comprises all the aspects of a moderate trekking route with dense forests, old villages, steep climbs, snowy trails, vast meadows leading to a stunning Pass heightened at 4200m. then the downhill testing one with the real strength to bear the stress on their knees. But all these things are forgotten when passionate trekkers halt in each striking campsite gossiping about the day's travail. The natural beauty on this trek makes one forget all the hardship and encourages indulging into the real Nature lying in front. Ultimately trek covers all the contentment and adversity at its peers that would befall a blissful memoir.
Arrive at kasol, here you will be greeted by our representatives (trek leader/ guide) and taken to further programs. Orientations and briefing will be made accordingly and we will start our trek from the last roadhead and will follow the Grahan Nalah. Initially the trail is moderate but soon rolls into uneven walking on the rocks followed by moderate trails too. The forests filled with diverse vegetation will accompany the hike giving some originality to the atmosphere. There are several tea shops en route where one can eat or drink particularly. Further on the trail steepens and keeps the gradient till the Grahan village. The village is hidden between the foliage at a ridge and is visible until we reach the village premises. The Grahan village is populated well but less connected to the rest of the world. There is no network in the village so we recommend that one should make any important calls before leaving the town at Kasol. Once occupied the accommodations one can explore around the village. The halt for the night will be in local household rooms. Have your dinner and sleep well.
Wake up early and tie trekking shoes to make an early departure from the Grahan village. The day trail consists of steep incline through thick forests towering high up in the sky, lush vegetation that one could be lost if didn’t stick together. The view today is bit covered with the dense trees making it a perfect site of canopies to form magical lights. The vistas will appear and hide constantly throughout the trek. On the half of the route we will have our packed lunch, and then restart the steep ordeal. It will take a couple of hours to approach the campsite at Minh Thach. Soon the forest will open up and the meadow of Minh Thach is visible between the trees. It is a beautiful campsite with spectacular evenings and morning lights. Here we will halt in the organized campsites and stay in tents and use sleeping bags..
The day is the shortest of the whole route yet steep enough to tire someone. It starts with the moderate trek from the campsite and then suddenly turns precipitous. The trick for climbing such gradients is to be patient and walk slowly, there is no need to run or overcome others but just trek at your own pace. After some hours, the treeline will be left below with air getting thinner and vast scenery comes forth in a grand view surrounded by countless mountain ranges and peaks. Nagaru is located on a ridge which is top on the mountain prone to ferocious and freezing winds but the scenery offered is way out of words. It is a place mostly submerged in snow while opening up the route till the end of May. The snowy landscape in front reminds of an incredible campsite full of adventures to offer. The night will be stayed inside camps under the bright night sky. It is an ultimate sight where one could enjoy or fulfill his dreams of gasping at the twinkling and dwindling lights in the night sky. Sleep tight as the following day is long and full of surprises.
It is the most awaited trail of the whole trek holding up the best vistas, a Pass to negotiate and entering into the other side of the vale full of natural beauties. At first a steep hike needs to be negotiated which is followed by flat terrain which lasts for hours before nearing upto the pass. As we approach the pass the mountain steepens for a while and thus we are at the top, looking behind at the valleys and valleys laying in front to be cherished throughout. At top sometimes the pass tests the limits of one wanting to cross over it by thunderstorms, speedy winds, snowfalls and even blizzards but it is often calm and favorable with true respect for the mountainous nature. After crossing over the pass we descend below again into the treeline giving up the strange yet comfortable sense of halt in a stunning campsite. Bishkeri is the most loved campsite after days of trekking through snowy terrains, precipitous climbs to the adverse weather conditions held at the top. Night can be spent in ease alongside the fire talking about the treks experiences while having a delicious dinner.
Today we will descend down towards Barshaini to end our trip. After having a sumptuous breakfast we will leave the place trekking downwards through forests, meadows, streams and a river to cross. The trail is perfectly engraved leading into the wonderful locations of vast grasslands enroute. Throughout the approach one would find the forests so prehistoric that it will take a couple of people to circle the massive trees. This primitiveness lasts until we reach Pulga, dwelling crammed with particular travelers. From Pulga the road head looks near but it isn’t we see, it is kind of camouflage after the days of walking in the hinterland. Soon we will be at the roadhead from where we will reach Manikaran by a local transport. And here on one is free to go to their preferred destinations.
