The peak is difficult consisting of technical approaches turbulent river crossings scree stretches knife edge traverses following to the ultimate summit of a plateau. Kang Yatse I requires basic knowledge of mountaineering climbing icy surfaces and bearing high altitudes.
  • The peak comprises of two significant routes depending on the acclimatization process. The first route departs from Chilling through Skiu Markha and Hanker in the frequent Markha valley, a rather moderate route giving one adequate time to get favorable to the unpredictable atmosphere. Another route starts from Shang Sumdo which climbs steeply to the Markha gorge to Larsa, Gongmaru la (5130m) and then to Nimaling. This route is comparatively faster than the first one reaching upto the altitude of 5000m. demanding one to acclimatize faster. Whichever the route is taken it will depend on the climbers acclimatization process and the group leaders decision to opt the route. However the first route from Skiu is most preferable route and is frequented since years.
  • The trail to the glorious peak leads through one of the diverse landscapes in the whole region. The rugged terrains scorching sunlight of the Markha valley intermittently turns to lively greenery decked with various highland flora and fauna.
  • The route goes along the Markha river from the last road head at Chilling, then trek starts by entering into the wild life sanctuary on deserted surfaces. If lucky one could see some wildlife wandering about enroute. Our first campsite at Skiu will be reached by the afternoon via an easy trail and then trekking towards Markha village will start on following day. The day presents easy trail with some of the freezing cold rivers to be crossed to the most dense village of Markha in the entire valley. Next day trek to Hanker is easy and will pass by an ancient monastery of Yensa perched on the rock hill. Then the trek climbs over steep trail and after hours of climbing we reach at the Base camp. Here at base camp one can see the Kang Yatse Peaks clearly. Following day shift the load to the advance base camp and return back to the Base camp favoring adequately. On the other day establish ABC (5900m.)and prepare for the summit attempt. Summit attempt will be executed in the middle of the night while climbing over scree ice snow and slants. The climb turns steep and keeps steepening over snow requiring use of ropes technical gears for the safe climb.
  • The final stretch of the ascend is demanding testing ones limit at devastating heights. After hours of labor we acclaim the final ridge, a knife edged slant dropping dangerously on each sides. Kang Yatse I reclines moderately to the flat summit at an altitude of 6400m. The acme is enthralling surrounded by vast sandy meadows mountains peaks elaborating the atmosphere. Along to it if the sky favors all the way up then the ultimate landscape can be gasped comprehensively. The summit of Kang Yatse I captures one to stay more and more but the weather warns to descend earlier, so we trace back our footprints and approach the ABC, BC and so on the camps. Finally civilization is encountered with grinning faces healthy hearts and with the true strength to overcome adversities held even in lives.
  • The Kang Yatse I gives all the aspects of climbing a peak, triumphing over the significant height and chance to live adventurous life in a few days jaunt. So we invite you to become one of them, a lucky ones gasping Nature first hand.

Preparation

Preparation for the Climb

As you know every mountainous excursion demands a precise planning, a planning with adequate pliability of observing and tackling situations, held all as by overcoming mind body and soul throughout the incredible Himalayan journey. Expeditions are tricky sometimes way far from coinciding, so it is necessary that only people with prior trekking experiences above 4500mtrs completed for 4-5 times or should have done Basic Mountaineering course are invited to join in the incredible mountainous tour.

So here are some aspects regarding Expedition preparation:

Physically – An Expedition demands a lot of physical endurance, to prepare for each Expedition you should work out a month before joining a program. Build up the adequate strength in your legs by running and exercising every day to boost up your endurance. Stop smoking and boost your lungs doing breathing exercises at routine basis two times a day, which will help acclimatize the conditions while being resilient on the trek. Take active part in outdoor games, Yoga and any other cardiac exercises. There are times when you have to climb even for 20hrs in single attempt, that’s how you should be prepared pushing yourself beyond limits and it only can be achieved by defined training before and enroute.

Mentally – Mental preparation is key, equally as important as physical training requisite for an Expedition. Before joining any Expedition get pleasure from your daily routines, exercise, eat well, take rest properly and relax. Do not stress your mind by unnecessary predictions preplanned strategies about the Expedition. Be with your best friends to get motivated and relax your mind. Because pre expedition assumptions are not worth to worry, once you join the March and meet with rest of the pack will bring encouragement and excitement. The mental preparedness will build through the entire trip conditions and the physical drawbacks will affect the mind somehow. So pay close attention to various parts of the body and consciously let them loosen up as you climb each campsite. When you climb try to relax your body focus on the training you have done and focus on the trail or some precipitous route to negotiate carefully. Experiment with different ways of walking as a way of finding enjoyment beyond the goal of reaching a destination. The main key to stay mentally fit is to enjoy the route and not to pressurize the mind.

Technically- Gear up yourself with perfect size trekking/climbing shoes and walk with it. Use 60ltr. Backpack in a daily routine with as much weight as you can put inside it, so you will become used to carrying loads for long distances. Buy a Trekking Pole, Water Bottle, Warm socks, Thermals, Fleece, Feather Jackets, Cap, Trousers, Poncho, Flip Flops, electronics such as power bank, camera (DSLR or digital camera) along with you. Get a sling to practice the major knots used later on the climb.

The Trekking adventure tours in Indian Himalaya

Pramod Baliga

29/05/2022
I recently completed this expedition with HAT. Almost all from our batch (10 members) crossed the shoulder and 4 went to the peak. The expedition leaders were fantastic and were motivating us everyday. whenever we feel it's difficult or something, they used to boost our energy. Had if the weather was not bad, everyone would have reached the summit. They give utmost priority to trekkers safety. And more importantly the food was also good. they take care of everything like what food is good for that high altitude. whole HAT team was ready to take feedback and improve the service, anytime. there were foreigners and first timers in our team. All were well treated. all were pleased with the service of HAT. Overall very good experience.
