  • Papsura is located in the boundary between Kullu and Lahul district of Himachal Pradesh. The name Papsura means the peak of ‘Evil’, a fierce mountain often unclimbed. It is believed that whenever evil takes over the world the peak rises high higher than its alike Dharamsura, the “White Sail”. The Papsura is a dangerous peak reputed for its long approaches and a rare summit attempts. The peak lies in the route of shepherds trail to reach distant Lahoul and Spiti valley over Sara Umga Pass. The pass is a dividing point between these two opposite topographies of diverse Himachal Pradesh. At one side lies Kullu rich and abundant but on the other side the arid and desolate Lahaul.
  • The expedition starts from  the renowned Parvati valley, at Barsheini. Trek starts toward Bhudha ban passing through Tosh village, a beautiful village before entering into the oblivion. After the village we cross the Tosh river and follow it amongst the rich forests display of a primitive scenery. The forests are mind blowing presenting fairy tale like trails canopies cool breeze and the versatile foliage. Then route goes to the alpine range at Saram Thach where one can find vegetation turning short to Juniper and Rhododendron shrubs. In between the gushing streams are one of the dreadful occasions to negotiate  and will continue to emerge en route until we reach the base of Tosh Glacier. After the Saram Thach the route trails over beautiful flowers alpine meadows to the Samsi Thach. During approach to the vast field of Sharam Thach again torrential stream needed to be crossed. Then trek to the base the camp located near to the west bank of Tosh Glacier. Here all the loads will be sorted out for the ferries laid next to be carried over to the higher approaches. The extreme climbing starts from this day of treading over icy traverse to the camp I, located somewhere along to the confluence of east Tosh glacier and the Papsura Glacier ridge. Then further camp is being recced and possible routes are being confirmed. A treading forward from camp I to camp II the rocky gully and a formidable icefall of Papsura appears fiercely as a troublesome task. This part of the climb requires enough bouldering experience because of vertical walls, reclining to a dangerous gradient covered by icy sheets. The technical climbing is completed soon and the camp II is established at the altitude of 5550m. The camp III or summit camp is fixed at somewhat 6000m.
  • There are few routes for the summit camp such as south east face and the west rock face. The south east face reaches to the southwest ridge of Papsura which is dangerous when it snows heavy and the west rock face is farther traversing on exposed rocky walls to the west, increasing distance between camps I, II. The route is opted considerably as per the conditions allow the mountaineers, in the meantime summit camp is established at over 6000m. During establishment of summit camp several ropes equipment’s assure the safety of the climber rigor the pinnacle. Because the Evil peak takes all the strength endurance at once in all forever reminding the power of pure Nature. Challenging mountain presents some more obstacles before reaching the summit. The summit attempt will traverse over vast ice field, a rock face climbing about 400m and then the summit ridgeline. One can have a look over stupendous Indrasan soaring through the clouds while approaching the summit. Inclement weather is the key factor of Papsura’s climb and whiting out everything in mere seconds could turn a healthy climb into disastrous event. Thus careful approach is confirmed by requisite measures. Finally summit is attained over notorious peak of “Evil” at 6451m., glimpse around vast expense of Himalayas capture the triumph through your lenses  and start descending carefully back to the lower camps. Once the base camp is held relax in the thick airy atmosphere, then wind up adventure for the daily lives left earlier. Finally civilization is encountered satisfying the quest of days isolation and the cheers of  triumph over “Evil” peak will last forever.

Preparation For Papsura Peak of Evil Expedition

As you know every mountainous excursion demands a precise planning, a planning with adequate pliability of observing and tackling situations, held all as by overcoming mind body and soul throughout the incredible Himalayan journey.

So here are some aspects of Papsura Peak of Evil Expedition Preparation:

Physically – A trek demands physical endurance, to prepare for each trek you should work out a month before joining a program.  Build up the adequate strength in your legs by running and exercising every day to boost up your endurance. Stop smoking and boost your lungs doing breathing exercises at routine basis two times a day, which will help acclimatize the conditions while being resilient on the trek. Take active part in outdoor games, Yoga and any other cardiac exercises.

Mentally – Mental preparation is key, equally as important as physical training requisite for a trek. Before joining any trek take pleasure in your daily routines, eat well, take rest properly and relax. Do not stress your mind by unnecessary predictions about the trek. Be with your best friends to get motivated and relax your mind. Because pre trek assumptions are not worthy because once you join the trek and meet with rest of the pack will bring encouragement and excitement. The mental preparedness will build through the entire trek conditions. And the physical drawbacks will affect the mind. So pay close attention to various parts of the body and consciously let them loosen up as you trek. When you trek try to relax your body, especially your hips. If you’re on a winding downhill trail or on a panicking slant, think of each step as part of a simple dance and enjoy the natural rhythms that the terrain and your body can find together cautiously. Experiment with different ways of walking as a way of finding enjoyment beyond the goal of reaching a destination. The main key to stay mentally fit is to enjoy the route and not to pressurize the mind.

Technically- Gear up yourself with perfect size trekking shoes and walk with it. Use 60ltr. Backpack in a daily routine with some weight inside it, so you become used to carrying loads. Buy a trekking pole, water bottle, warm socks, thermals, fleece, feather jackets, trousers, poncho,  flip flops, electronics such as power bank, camera (DSLR or digital camera).
