  • Rangrik Rang in Kinnouri means ‘a mountain sculpted by God’, towers at a significant height in remote district of Kinnour Himachal Pradesh. The peak was first climbed by Indo British team in 1994 who also named the peak Rangrik Rang after the Rangrik Tungma, an ancient Monastery located in the Charang village. On earlier accounts the peak was named peak 6553m and least information’s or photographs were available. Since 1994 Peak 6553m has been configured and climbed at various expeditions. However peak has earned its prominence as a technical peak but the approaches and location of the peak sets back many of the people. It is only those with sheer endurance and passion to climb the hard mountains match in the Rangrik Rang expedition. The route to Rangrik mountain shares similar campsites as for Mt. Phawararang, another beauty in the desert.
  • A leisure walk from Thangi Lamber Shurtiling approaches us at Charang (3600m), the most holy place in Kinnour. Charang village owns an ancient monastery called as Rangrik Tungma, established by ambassadors of the great Lama Atisha. The temple is believed to be built by the God himself in an overnight. Here we will perform a ceremony for safe climb before leaving in the isolation. Therefore we will start climbing towards Base camp located at the confluence of Racho Khad valleys at 4100m. Here camps will be fixed at magnificent place of the snow laden peaks heading into the valley. Sufficient load ferries are moved up to the higher camps. In between ABC is established on the moraine of Racho Khad glacier 4800m. It is a great moraine site presenting the formidable north face of the Rangrik Rang and a steep headwall below the col giving a way to the northeast ridgeline. At ABC routes are configured, recce is done for safer climbs and requisite equipment’s are transferred to Camp I (5250m) and so on to the Camp II (5750m). The route to Camp I goes over steep scree turning the climb dangerous. Camp I is fixed below the headwall at 5300m. Then headwall travails one through rock islands over islands fixing number of ropes to achieve Camp II on the Col. Next we will climb over steep snow to the higher ridge at 6000m’s. Here at Camp III we will prepare for the final ascend and will hit the target in early hours. We will ascend over a dangerous ridge heading northeast of unconsolidated snow on ice and climb exposed stretch of hard ice wall. After this wall ridge arc’s till the summit reliving one at final push.
  • At 6553m summit wonderful  mountains of Garhwal, Kullu, Spiti and Tibet stretch distantly in the panorama. The summit of Rangrik Rang is quite flat and has little snow melt pool aside the rocks. We will spend some time and descend to lower camps. The base camp will be reached and cleaning is done around the campsite. We will retrace back to the village and back to the town.
  • Climbing a mountain is more than exploring a region and is so the Rangrik Rang expedition. The voyage offers versatile atmospheres of desertion foliage and a rocky outlying of the remote region. No doubt it is a comprehensive climbing experience reaching to the crux of a climber.

Preparation For Rangrik Rang Expedition

As you know every mountainous excursion demands a precise planning, a planning with adequate pliability of observing and tackling situations, held all as by overcoming mind body and soul throughout the incredible Himalayan journey.

So here are some aspects of Rangrik Rang Expedition preparation:

Physically – A trek demands physical endurance, to prepare for each trek you should work out a month before joining a program.  Build up the adequate strength in your legs by running and exercising every day to boost up your endurance. Stop smoking and boost your lungs doing breathing exercises at routine basis two times a day, which will help acclimatize the conditions while being resilient on the trek. Take active part in outdoor games, Yoga and any other cardiac exercises.

Mentally – Mental preparation is key, equally as important as physical training requisite for a trek. Before joining any trek take pleasure in your daily routines, eat well, take rest properly and relax. Do not stress your mind by unnecessary predictions about the trek. Be with your best friends to get motivated and relax your mind. Because pre trek assumptions are not worthy because once you join the trek and meet with rest of the pack will bring encouragement and excitement. The mental preparedness will build through the entire trek conditions. And the physical drawbacks will affect the mind. So pay close attention to various parts of the body and consciously let them loosen up as you trek. When you trek try to relax your body, especially your hips. If you’re on a winding downhill trail or on a panicking slant, think of each step as part of a simple dance and enjoy the natural rhythms that the terrain and your body can find together cautiously. Experiment with different ways of walking as a way of finding enjoyment beyond the goal of reaching a destination. The main key to stay mentally fit is to enjoy the route and not to pressurize the mind.

Technically- Gear up yourself with perfect size trekking shoes and walk with it. Use 60ltr. Backpack in a daily routine with some weight inside it, so you become used to carrying loads. Buy a trekking pole, water bottle, warm socks, thermals, fleece, feather jackets, trousers, poncho,  flip flops, electronics such as power bank, camera (DSLR or digital camera).
