  • A magnificent Kedarkantha peak standing tall at an elevation of 12,500 ft within Govind Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarkashi district of Uttrakhand is a representation of one of the places we may name a paradise on Earth. Taking its name from Hindu mythology, 'Kedarkantha,' which means 'throat of Lord Shiva,' is claimed to be a location where Lord Shiva pondered before traveling to 'Kedarnath.' It's an exotic journey rich in flora and fauna, changing tree lines, gorgeous campsites, snowy mountain ranges, frozen lakes, and much more. Despite being an all-year walk, it is most popular in the winter for its beautiful beauty and the tranquillity of the whiteness all around. The majestic Himalayas are breathtaking, but their true beauty lies in winters.
  • The journey to the delights of 'Kedarkantha' begins at a little settlement called Sankri,' a hiking hamlet. Sankri is the last road-head settlement at the foot of the Himalayas, serving as a gateway to the euphoric world. The "Kedarkanth" trip is around 20 kilometers from 'Sankri' and takes approximately 6 days to complete. The finest thing is that the hike concludes where it began, at 'Sankri.' The temperature during the walk is favorable in comparison to other Himalayan treks, which is why it is gaining popularity. The temperature swings from 8 to 20 degrees Celsius during the day and drops to -10 degrees Celsius at night.
  • KedarKanth offers a variety of scenic beauty along the journey, and from the summit, the horizon expands to thirteen Himalayan peaks nearby, glamorizing the vista even more and sending chills down the spine. It's a 20-kilometer trip to paradise with a gradient of 6,400 feet (Sankri) to 12,500 feet. The difficulty level of this trek is moderate, making it suitable for first-timers. This journey never fails to captivate you, keeping you spellbound from the moment you walk through the gates into the 'Govind Sanctuary' until you step out. We prioritize enhancing your experience with our services and ensuring that you have a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

Preparation for Kedarkantha Trek

As you know every mountainous excursion demands a precise planning, a planning with adequate pliability of observing and tackling situations, held all as by overcoming mind body and soul throughout the incredible Himalayan journey.

So here are some aspects regarding Hampta Pass Trek preparation:

Physically – A trek demands physical endurance, to prepare for each trek you should work out a month before joining a program. Build up the adequate strength in your legs by running and exercising every day to boost up your endurance. Stop smoking and boost your lungs doing breathing exercises at routine basis two times a day, which will help acclimatize the conditions while being resilient on the trek. Take active part in outdoor games, Yoga and any other cardiac exercises.

Mentally – Mental preparation is key, equally as important as physical training requisite for a trek. Before joining any trek take pleasure in your daily routines, eat well, take rest properly and relax. Do not stress your mind by unnecessary predictions about the trek. Be with your best friends to get motivated and relax your mind. Because pre trek assumptions are not worthy because once you join the trek and meet with rest of the pack will bring encouragement and excitement. The mental preparedness will build through the entire trek conditions. And the physical drawbacks will affect the mind. So pay close attention to various parts of the body and consciously let them loosen up as you trek. When you trek try to relax your body, especially your hips. If you’re on a winding downhill trail or on a panicking slant, think of each step as part of a simple dance and enjoy the natural rhythms that the terrain and your body can find together cautiously. Experiment with different ways of walking as a way of finding enjoyment beyond the goal of reaching a destination. The main key to stay mentally fit is to enjoy the route and not to pressurize the mind.

Technically- Gear up yourself with perfect size trekking shoes and walk with it. Use 60ltr. Backpack in a daily routine with some weight inside it, so you become used to carrying loads. Buy a trekking pole, water bottle, warm socks, thermals, fleece, feather jackets, trousers, poncho, flip flops, electronics such as power bank, camera (DSLR or digital camera).

Detail Itinerary of Kedarkantha Trek

Day 1: Arriving at Sankri from Dehradun

Sankri is the last village to be connected by a road, from where the perilous journey to Lord Shiva's throat begins. Sankri is the starting point for many other adventure treks, hence it is sometimes referred to as a trekker's paradise. The drive to Sankri from Dehradun takes 7 to 8 hours and covers over 200 kilometers. The exhaustion of the long travel will be washed away when you are greeted by the tall rising peaks, lush green woods, and, most importantly, the rich culture and warm smiles of the Sankri residents who will welcome you with open arms. Sankri will begin to astound you the moment you take your first step in the
Village.

Day 2: Sankri to Juda ka Talab journey

After refueling with a hearty and nutritious meal, you will go for your first stop, Juda Ka Talab. 'Juda ka Taal,' as the name suggests, is an incredibly long length of the mountain with a lake in between. It is the first stop on the lakefront when the camp is established. The lake will captivate you with its beauty and remarkable contrasts of green, brown, and white. On this day, you will travel approximately 3 to 5 kilometers, giving you plenty of time to be awed by the grandeur of 'Juda ka Taal.'

Day 3: From Juda Ka Taal to Kedarkantha Base Camp

After sleeping beneath the stars on the lakeshore in a tent, you will be even more interested to see what the voyage will bring as you move forward, and this hike will not disappoint you. On this day, you will hike 3 to 4 kilometers to the 'Kedarkantha Base Camp,' which is located at an elevation of 11,500 feet. In just 4 kilometers, you will notice a dramatic change in the weather.

Day 4: Kedarkanntha Base camp to Kedarkantha Top and Back to Hargaon

Every trekker is looking forward to this day because you will be reaching the summit of Kedarkantha. Breakfast and morning tea will be supplied to keep you warm. Kedarkantha is located at an elevation of 12,500 feet, and once reaching the summit, you will be witnessing one of the Himalayan wonders, the towering ranges before you will not fail to take your breath away and leave you spellbound. The sensation of being on a mountaintop with the world below your feet will leave you speechless, providing you with an experience of a lifetime or a narrative to tell your grandchildren about how you conquered the Himalayas. You will descend to Hargaon from the summit.

Day 5: Hargaon to Sankri

After spending the night in the tent, you will begin to miss the adventure of this walk. On this day, you will go over 6 kilometers downhill to the settlement of Sankri, from whence you will return to your typical days.

It is stated that nothing lasts forever, but the fun and adventure you had on this journey will be with you for the rest of your life. When you return to your normal life and reflect on the time you spent, it will still bring a great smile to your face, and everything you experienced will echo in your memories.

I did Kedarkantha trek with HAT. I was alone but still they didn't cancel the trek. Really appreciated that. Also Maninder Sir was always prompt in his reply on Wassapp and provided all sort of information I required. HAT delivered what they promised. They have hired very knowledgeable guides who are local and helps you with all kind of help on route. The food they provide was top quality. They provided gajar halwa and Kheer and Pasta which frankly speaking I didn't expect. Also the hospitality at Sankri make you feel home. No doubt will do my next trek with them. Just go for it.

I found the trek team and the trek leader very professional. Each meal served was hot, freshly cooked and wholesome. Consciously, HAT was providing food which was not factory made and comes in bio-nondegradable packing. Through the trek they continued to emphasize on the need to keep the nature free of any trash. They chose a route not taken by other teams so the trail was not crowded and clean.

The Kedarkantha trekking was the first Himalayan trek experience for me and HAT has made my experience one of its kind! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. What I also realized was that HAT just does not want us to trek a summit, they create and curate a complete life experience. It was the small things that mattered the most - as simple as an encouraging wake-up call, the 10 minutes of silence on the summit, and the postcard. I was in tears at the summit of the beauty of the Himalayas. The trek leaders left no stone unturned to make us comfortable and motivated us every single minute. The stories we have exchanged with him, the star-gazing experience, everything is so dear to my heart and I cannot wait to trek with HAT again. Thank you, truly.
