The vast Karakoram Range is filled with unclimbed and unnamed peaks of sheer altitudes. The distant mountains are barren, rugged, isolated and hard to approach even to the nearest base camp. The Rimo I was formidable till the year 1988 when indo British team climbed up to 6850m. through the southwest ridge but never succeeded to summit it. Many failed expeditions in the past years fascinated the world to gain this opportunity as a perfect challenge. The peak has been climbed many a times in the recent years and still being a vigorous pinnacle in the secluded Karakoram mountains.
  • Moon Peak climb is a 32 nights and 33 days trek and a challenging one. The abrupt slope makes this a challenge folded by the bouldery and petrified later part of the trail. As we progress later, Moon Peak becomes more prominent and more appealing. Be the one to reach the top of this astonishing iconic peak of Dhauladhars. Moon peak is considered an easy trek with a well-marked trail. you will get an opportunity to explore the scenic beauty.
  • As you know Rimo I is near to the Siachen glacier so we enter into the Nubra valley and then trek to the snout of the Siachen Glacier. Climb through Siachen Glacier and take a right to the Terong Topko, a beautiful valley amidst desolation. Further we will go across moraines to the dust camp through Terong valley. Then to the Base camp (4300m.) at the junction of North Terong and Shelkar Chorten Glacier. By the time ABC (5000m.) is set at the head of North of Terong Glacier and sufficient ferries are completed. From ABC to Camp I is a dangerous stretch of crevasses where cautious movements are to be made. The Camp I (5900m)is located at the foot of the Rimo I peak just below the Ibex col. We will set up our camp I and keep moving the requisite stuff to the higher camps. The actual climb starts after the Camp I requiring ropes on most of the deadly slants. We will follow the steep rock ice walls via Ibex Col and set up the Camp II on the rock face little below the hanging glacier at 6700m. At the camp II we will regain refreshed  zeal and vigor to overcome the wall of hanging glacier lying next in the route to Camp III. The rock ice wall demands sheer strength and technicalities and thousands meter of ropes to negotiate this strenuous part at 6900m before the summit attempt. The Camp III or the summit camp is held above the hanging glacier on the steep knife ridge on southwest ridgeline at the altitude of 7000m. Here at summit camp we will wait for the weather to favor and hit the target in the early hours. The summit route is steep but a relief of treading on the soft snow but requiring adequate safety of ropes. Attain the top at 7385m. and glimpse an inspiring views of giant Karakoram mountains. Spend some time at the summit and descend back to Camp I and back to ABC. Wind up at Base and return back to Siachen snout then trek back to the last road head.
  • The climbing of Rimo I is a unique experience demonstrating various technical and mountaineering skills incredible sites sheer approaches all encountered in  this expedition. The expedition also gives the chance to glimpse grand Karakoram range and the huge Glaciers after the North and South poles. Thus the peak has attracted mountaineers form all over the world and still the fascination is growing on.

Preparation

Preparation for the Peak Climb:

As you know every mountainous excursion demands a precise planning, a planning with adequate pliability of observing and tackling situations, held all as by overcoming mind body and soul throughout the incredible Himalayan journey. Expeditions are tricky sometimes way far from coinciding, so it is necessary that only people with prior trekking experiences above 4500mtrs completed for 4-5 times or should have done Basic Mountaineering course are invited to join in the incredible mountainous tour.

So here are some aspects regarding Expedition preparation:

Physically: An Expedition demands a lot of physical endurance, to prepare for each Expedition you should work out a month before joining a program. Build up the adequate strength in your legs by running and exercising every day to boost up your endurance. Stop smoking and boost your lungs doing breathing exercises at routine basis two times a day, which will help acclimatize the conditions while being resilient on the trek. Take active part in outdoor games, Yoga and any other cardiac exercises. There are times when you have to climb even for 20hrs in single attempt, that’s how you should be prepared pushing yourself beyond limits and it only can be achieved by defined training before and enroute.

Mentally: Mental preparation is key, equally as important as physical training requisite for an Expedition. Before joining any Expedition get pleasure from your daily routines, exercise, eat well, take rest properly and relax. Do not stress your mind by unnecessary predictions preplanned strategies about the Expedition. Be with your best friends to get motivated and relax your mind. Because pre expedition assumptions are not worth to worry, once you join the March and meet with rest of the pack will bring encouragement and excitement. The mental preparedness will build through the entire trip conditions and the physical drawbacks will affect the mind somehow. So pay close attention to various parts of the body and consciously let them loosen up as you climb each campsite. When you climb try to relax your body focus on the training you have done and focus on the trail or some precipitous route to negotiate carefully. Experiment with different ways of walking as a way of finding enjoyment beyond the goal of reaching a destination. The main key to stay mentally fit is to enjoy the route and not to pressurize the mind.

Technically: Gear up yourself with perfect size trekking/climbing shoes and walk with it. Use 60ltr. Backpack in a daily routine with as much weight as you can put inside it, so you will become used to carrying loads for long distances. Buy a Trekking Pole, Water Bottle, Warm socks, Thermals, Fleece, Feather Jackets, Cap, Trousers, Poncho, Flip Flops, electronics such as power bank, camera (DSLR or digital camera) along with you. Get a sling to practice the major knots used later on the climb.

Climbing a peak is always as staggering as its sheer challenges, opting combination of accurate preparedness will fruit you with glorifying summit attain. So prepare yourselves honestly and join in the Himalayan Adventure Trips Expedition to Mighty mountain Rimo 1.
