  • Manirang is the least known peak sited in the border between Kinnour and Lahoul Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh. It is the one of the highest crowns of Himachal Pradesh towering about 6593 m. the route of the Manirang peak leads through Manirang Pass, a shortest connector opted as the trade route between Spiti and Kinnour earlier. It was the remotest region secluded from years and still the peak being hard to approach. But now a day’s road has been built and the region has got bit recognition with the outside world. The peak is located in the harshest regions of the country where vegetation is almost scarce and rocky distances are mindboggling. Extreme weather conditions razor sharp ice walls jagged ridges undulating terrains moraines all needed to be traversed precisely. As the peak has a significant altitude and technicalities it is compulsory to have previous experience of climbing in intense atmospheres. The inhabitation settles in a dry and harsh region of less rain but the higher altitudes are fiercer with unpredictable weather conditions. So the Manirang Peak expedition starts from Kaza passing Sapena, Rankali, Pankit lands and finally commences the trail from Mane village, the last habitat of the expedition route. It is a gradual approach through vast fields, rusty brown mountains to multiple freezing rivers to cross. The treading will keep rolling over slants and again the gushing river will appear to cross. Multiple camps will be held until we reach the base camp. Further the moraines will show its sheer occurrence followed by scree slants vast boulder fields up till the camp I. then following the river will take us to the camp II from where we can have a first glimpse of the magnificent Peak. After Camp II massive ice fields will appear en route the Manirang Pass. It is mixed of scree and stiff slopes packed with heavy boulders as we reach the pass. On the following day a recce needs to be done before attempting the summit. The stretch towards summit is rocky filled with unstable stones rocks engulfed by rock hard ice beneath, and worse to that the gradient keeps reclining as the altitude is ascended. So every safety measures are to be considered carefully during this mixed terrain climb. The summit is conquered after a great exertion and will offer the best panoramic vistas at the zenith. At the top 360 degree view will present most of the Himalayan peaks towering high amidst the misty clouds. A Puja will be held hastily, have blessings for safe descend and climb down the mountain cautiously. All in all attempting the Peak less known could pay homage to the wonderful peak and isolated dwellers by experiencing a bit of their hardships in such barren lands.

Preparation

Preparation for the Peak Climb:

As you know every mountainous excursion demands a precise planning, a planning with adequate pliability of observing and tackling situations, held all as by overcoming mind body and soul throughout the incredible Himalayan journey. Expeditions are tricky sometimes way far from coinciding, so it is necessary that only people with prior trekking experiences above 4500mtrs completed for 4-5 times or should have done Basic Mountaineering course are invited to join in the incredible mountainous tour.

So here are some aspects regarding Expedition preparation:

Physically: An Expedition demands a lot of physical endurance, to prepare for each Expedition you should work out a month before joining a program. Build up the adequate strength in your legs by running and exercising every day to boost up your endurance. Stop smoking and boost your lungs doing breathing exercises at routine basis two times a day, which will help acclimatize the conditions while being resilient on the trek. Take active part in outdoor games, Yoga and any other cardiac exercises. There are times when you have to climb even for 20hrs in single attempt, that’s how you should be prepared pushing yourself beyond limits and it only can be achieved by defined training before and enroute.

Mentally: Mental preparation is key, equally as important as physical training requisite for an Expedition. Before joining any Expedition get pleasure from your daily routines, exercise, eat well, take rest properly and relax. Do not stress your mind by unnecessary predictions preplanned strategies about the Expedition. Be with your best friends to get motivated and relax your mind. Because pre expedition assumptions are not worth to worry, once you join the March and meet with rest of the pack will bring encouragement and excitement. The mental preparedness will build through the entire trip conditions and the physical drawbacks will affect the mind somehow. So pay close attention to various parts of the body and consciously let them loosen up as you climb each campsite. When you climb try to relax your body focus on the training you have done and focus on the trail or some precipitous route to negotiate carefully. Experiment with different ways of walking as a way of finding enjoyment beyond the goal of reaching a destination. The main key to stay mentally fit is to enjoy the route and not to pressurize the mind.

Technically: Gear up yourself with perfect size trekking/climbing shoes and walk with it. Use 60ltr. Backpack in a daily routine with as much weight as you can put inside it, so you will become used to carrying loads for long distances. Buy a Trekking Pole, Water Bottle, Warm socks, Thermals, Fleece, Feather Jackets, Cap, Trousers, Poncho, Flip Flops, electronics such as power bank, camera (DSLR or digital camera) along with you. Get a sling to practice the major knots used later on the climb.

Climbing a peak is always as staggering as its sheer challenges, opting combination of accurate preparedness will fruit you with glorifying summit attain. So prepare yourselves honestly and join in the Himalayan Adventure Trips Expedition to Mighty mount Manirang.
