Because there is no settlement along the road, bring your own gear and provisions from Manali. The first night, camp on the beaches of the lake, which is much larger (4 km in circumference) and deeper than it appears. The Chandra River flows alongside the lake. The first day's walk is 18 kilometres long. Upstream along the river. Past the massive reverie island known as samudra tapu, which freezes solid in the winter. Topkogongma's night camp is near to a brook. At 7 a.m., the second day begins with a crossing of the icy Stream.
  • Must reach the next, much larger stream (topkoyongma) before midday, as it becomes too flooded with glacial melt to cross after that. Camp atop a bluff with a view of the river. 15500 feet in height. The third day's hike was much more pleasant and mild. Over fields, past the breathtaking Majestic Baralacha glacier on your left (west), the source of the Chandra river. After six hours, we arrived at the Baralacha pass (16500 feet). This is on the Manali-Leh road, and one may take a vehicle back to Manali from here. Preparation for CHANDRATAL BARALACHA TREK

As you know every mountainous excursion demands a precise planning, a planning with adequate pliability of observing and tackling situations, held all as by overcoming mind body and soul throughout the incredible Himalayan journey.

So here are some aspects regarding Hampta Pass Trek preparation:

Physically – A trek demands physical endurance, to prepare for each trek you should work out a month before joining a program. Build up the adequate strength in your legs by running and exercising every day to boost up your endurance. Stop smoking and boost your lungs doing breathing exercises at routine basis two times a day, which will help acclimatize the conditions while being resilient on the trek. Take active part in outdoor games, Yoga and any other cardiac exercises.

Mentally – Mental preparation is key, equally as important as physical training requisite for a trek. Before joining any trek take pleasure in your daily routines, eat well, take rest properly and relax. Do not stress your mind by unnecessary predictions about the trek. Be with your best friends to get motivated and relax your mind. Because pre trek assumptions are not worthy because once you join the trek and meet with rest of the pack will bring encouragement and excitement. The mental preparedness will build through the entire trek conditions. And the physical drawbacks will affect the mind. So pay close attention to various parts of the body and consciously let them loosen up as you trek. When you trek try to relax your body, especially your hips. If you’re on a winding downhill trail or on a panicking slant, think of each step as part of a simple dance and enjoy the natural rhythms that the terrain and your body can find together cautiously. Experiment with different ways of walking as a way of finding enjoyment beyond the goal of reaching a destination. The main key to stay mentally fit is to enjoy the route and not to pressurize the mind.

Technically- Gear up yourself with perfect size trekking shoes and walk with it. Use 60ltr. Backpack in a daily routine with some weight inside it, so you become used to carrying loads. Buy a trekking pole, water bottle, warm socks, thermals, fleece, feather jackets, trousers, poncho, flip flops, electronics such as power bank, camera (DSLR or digital camera).

Detail Itinerary of CHANDRATAL BARALACHA TREK

Day 1: GET TO MANALI

Reporting – Acclimatization – Trek Orientation & Briefing – Trek Planning & Window Shopping

(Enough time would be allotted for visiting the market and other surrounding locations.)

Day 2: MANALI – ROHTANG PASS (13052 feet) – BATAL (4000 metres)

After a nutritious breakfast, we will go by vehicle to Batal (Sapiti Valley) (123 Km. 6 to 8 hour ). We leave Chota Dara and proceed along the right bank of the Chandra River. On the left, there is a good view of the Bara Shigri glacier. All of this is above the 25-kilometer-long Himalayan glacier. White Sail, Shigri Parbat, and Kullu Makalu are prominent peaks where daring mountaineers have reached the sky.

Day 3: TREK TO KUNZOM LA (4551m) 2 hr, TREK TO CHANDRATAL (4270m), 4-5 hrs

We climb towards Kunzum la after crossing a bridge shortly after Batal, following a tiny stream that originates above the pass. When you get at the pass, you can see the Spiti valley, which spans 170 kilometres to the south. Take a path that leads to Lake. 8-kilometer approach to the huge meadows, a popular place with a plethora of shepherd's huts. The lake is reached after crossing a long stretch of rough ground and a tiny creek. The most amazing sight across the Chandra river is the Samudra Tapu glacier, North Dakka glacier, South Dakka glacier, and Silver glacier. The huge Moulkila and C.B. summits loom over the glaciers. We leave Kunzom and travel for 8 kilometres to Chandratal, which boasts a panoramic vista of the Chandra Bhaga hills all around. Following that, camp after chandratal
Day 4: CHANDRATAL – TOKPO YONGMA (4'400m) 7 hours

A difficult and exhausting climb, but well worth it because trekkers occasionally come across stretches of verdant pastureland. This section is around 14 to 16 kilometres long. The trail begins with a series of ups and downs through a rocky valley and boulder fields. As you progress, you will see a flat grassy region that slopes up to a snow-clad ridge. Snow cocks can be heard and even seen if you are lucky. After 3 hours, the trail descends a knoll with a precipitous cliff to the river far below on the left. If the water level is low, cross the stream or discover Snow Bridge near the source. Alternatively, camp and cross the next morning as soon as possible.

DAY 5: TOKPO YONGMA – TOKPO GONGMA, (4,700m) 6/7 hours

Trek through a narrow valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains on both sides. Star walk as early as possible, because this stream must be crossed while the flow of water is lower early in the day. After crossing the river, the valley opens out onto a vast plateau where camp is located on a wonderful grassy spot.

Day 6: TOKPO GONGMA – BARALACHA LA (4'890m), 4/5 hr trek

Early departure from camp today for the 7-kilometer-long Baralacha la pass, which provides the source of three rivers: Chandra via the south, Bhaga through upper Lahul, and Yunam towards Zanskar. The trail provides a spectacular view of M-4, the tallest peak in the Moulkila range, as well as the Keorang range of the Great Himalayas. Join the main roadway at the pass. We will be picked up here by our vehicle and driven to Manali.

Day 7: BARALACHA LA – DARCHA (3300m) – ROHTANG PASS (3978m) – MANALI DRIVE FOR 8–9 HOURS.

I can't forget my chandratal trek and can't mix up it with other tourist spots. It was one of the best treks of my life. At one point in time, I was scared also, as breathing is difficult due to thin air. Chandratal Lake is far more beautiful than it looks in pictures. Straight hills without any trees and vegetation give a look to deserts. Thank you Hat!!
